Obsolete...

Do you remember way back when (like 10 years ago) when we still used film? I do remember that foreign word, "Film", but the memory of the lost media is slowly fading.  Film was all I ever used, but since receiving my first digital camera, my use of the media has ceased.  It is nice knowing immediately after snapping the picture, if it has turned out.

Two days before Halloween I decided I would actually dress up for Halloween at work.  I decided that I was going as a paparazzo.  I had two film cameras that I would feel safe taking to work to use as props (the Rebel was absolutely not going to work, my baby stayed at home). I also made myself an ID tag to hang around my neck and wore a ball cap backwards.  I thought it would be fun to actually take some pictures of people at work with the 35mm that worked.  I had a blast taking pictures that day.  The sound and feel of taking pictures with this Pentax P3n was much different than that of my Canon Rebel.  The Pentax gave this satisfying "clunk" of the mirror inside shifting each time it took a picture.

I did run into some hardship when trying to focus the Pentax...while the Rebel allows you to see the entire viewfinder for focus, the Pentax showed focus in a little circle where you are able to see if the two halves are lined up.  Another issue I had was being able to actually see the viewfinder in focus...the Rebel has a dioptic adjustment where you can focus the viewfinder to see without your glasses...not the story with the Pentax...I was having a hard time getting my eye, glasses and viewfinder all lined up so I could see my subject.

I went to Wal-Mart to drop off my roll of film and was slightly disappointed that they no longer offered the one-hour processing for film since they have changed the store layout.  I had to toss my film in the drop-box...and now I'm playing the waiting game.  I'm anxious to see what the pictures turned out like, since I didn't have the option to view the pictures at the time I took them.  The metering on the Pentax isn't as sophisticated as that on my Rebel, so I will be curious to see how correct it is.

(This is my Pentax P3n...I did some research and figured out that it was made somewhere around the early 1990s.  In today's fast-paced camera upgrades, it could probably be considered an antique!)

(The media has also changed quite a bit over the years also.  The film came in canisters...my Rebel, which is about four and a half years old uses a Compact Flash card...and my newer cameras use the SD or SDHC memory cards.  The rolls of film use up more space than the others, and it also handles the last amount of pictures.  My, how time has changed the way we take pictures!)
