You Never Know...
I would say this past week could easily be labeled as "horrible"...for the most part. Thursday morning I learned that a friend's son was killed in a car wreck and he was only 19 years old. Saturday I learned that a little girl was attacked by stray dog, which tore her face up. Sunday a co-worker's son fell off of a mule and broke his femur and arm. Monday morning I learned that a guy who was a few years older in me in high school (and his mother was my high school counselor and principal) was a victim in a pedestrian -vs- vehicle hit-and-run and passed away. And today while I was at work I learned that the assistant branch manager's son was injured by a firework Monday night. All of this makes you rethink that you just never know what may happen or when it may happen. It is such a tragedy that two young men, one 19 and one 29, died this past week...both of which I know their parents or them. My heart goes out to the families of Dyllan Lawson and Foster Courtney.
In the midst of all this bad news and tragedy this is a glimpse of good news. My friend Kelly received her double-lung transplant on Sunday. She had been waiting in Durham, NC about four months for the transplant and it finally happened. From the updates I have received, she is doing great. They removed Kelly from the ventilator today and she was able to call and talk to a few people today. I was ecstatic when I learned that the miracle was going to happen for her finally. (There are other details that I want to comment on, but I just can't yet...they make it even better...)
This evening I went to Memphis to watch my "little" cousin perform at the Texaco Country Showdown. I thought she should have won, but I could also be accused of a little bias... On the way out of the fairgrounds I noticed how awesome the sunset was.
In light of the tragedies and the miracle that happened this week, it just seemed perfect. I have been keeping several people in my thoughts this past week...and I don't think those thoughts are going away any time soon.
